Vienna Boys Choir: guided school tours available?
Dear Barbara,
Is it possible to tour the Vienna Boys Choir school to see the practice rooms and living quarters?
Betty
Dear Betty,
it is possible to take a guided tour through Augarten Palace, the home of the Vienna Boys Choir, as part of a concert with music of Mozart, Strauss and Haydn. During the tour, you will see the rehearsal rooms, the boarding school and the class rooms. These tours take place only on certain days between May and October. The October dates are:
11th, 18th and 25th. You can access further information about the tourhere. The site is German only but you can email the tour operator for further information in English – just click on the link next to the envelope icon on the right.
Another opportunity to enter Augarten Palace is on the Vienna Boys Choir’s annual Open Day , which in 2013 will be on 8th November. You can visit the Vienna Boys Choir’s primary school, secondary school and boarding school between 2pm and 5pm. The choir boys will also present their new piece ‘Rotasia’. If you have boys yourself, they can try out their voices to find out whether they have hidden talents.
Please let me know if you find this useful.
Have a lovely time in Vienna!
Barbara
For 15 years I have been connecting independent travellers to the pulse of my hometown Wien: by designing bespoke itineraries that allow you to get behind Vienna’s local charm on your own, while covering its key highlights.
Taking you a step further: To apply the insight provided here my local partner guide Claudia and her team take over when you arrive in Wien. From meeting the Spanish Riding School’s Lipizzaner horses backstage and crawling through the attic of St. Stephen’s Cathedral to exploring neighbourhoods where locals still play cards in cafés.
