Advent and Christmas Concerts in Vienna 2025. In the run up to Christmas trumpets, strings and choirs provide give classical music special vibes. Many of them take place in our sumptuous baroque churches and at St. Stephen's Cathedral. There is a BIG difference to department store Christmas crooners!
Advent and Christmas Concerts at Stephansdom
Right in the city center our landmark St. Stephen's Cathedral opens up space for divine sounds. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the run up to Christmas, one of Vienna’s best orchestras uncorks fine classics that Europeans already enjoyed 300 years ago. Among them are selected pieces from Bach’s Christmas Oratory, festive chamber music by Mozart and selected pieces by Joseph Haydn.
At midnight on 4th December, pay tribute to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart by joining the Requiem on the anniversary of his death. On St. Nicolas Day (6th December) the world reknown Vienna Symphonic Orchestra will host their annual advent concert in the cathedral.

Sound of Christmas at the Imperial Capuchin Church
While other concert venues focus on larger and more grandiose performances, the Sound of Christmas concerts have an intimate, heartfelt quality that speaks to Vienna's love for music in all its forms. The concert features a carefully curated selection of traditional and classical Christmas music, blending carols, seasonal classics, and sacred works from composers such as Bach, Mozart, and Schubert. Knowing that the Emperor Quartet and its master trumpeter always play Austrian Christmas songs I wouldn't leave my seat without having listened to 'O Tannenbaum' or 'Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht'.
The Imperial Capuchin Church, also known as the Kapuzinerkirche, is the final resting place of the Habsburg dynasty. With its traditional architecture and serene atmosphere, this church makes Christmas extra spiritual.

Magic Trumpet at St. Anne's Church
When a gifted trumpeter and an organist 'communicate' about Christmas in a small baroque church it pays to listen.
Set at St. Anne's church in Vienna's city center, the Magic Trumpet concert series blende exquisite music with an intimate historical setting. The program includes well-loved classical pieces from composers like Vivaldi, Mozart, and Bach, as well as famous trumpet solos and arias. It’s designed to be accessible yet sophisticated, making it appealing to both seasoned classical music fans and newcomers alike.
St. Anne's Church is not only a Baroque gem with beautiful architecture, frescoed ceilings, its acoustics are particularly suited for trumpet and organ music. Unlike larger venues, St. Anne’s has a cozy and intimate atmosphere, allowing audience members to be close to the musicians. This proximity creates a personal and almost private concert experience, which is especially magical when paired with the church's candle-lit interior.

The Three Tenors: Italian Evening
It takes place in the breathtaking Minoritenkirche, a historic church in the heart of Vienna renowned for its remarkable acoustics and stunning Gothic architecture. The concert features Trio Caruso, a dynamic group of tenors, accompanied by Liliana Kehayova on violoncello and Mario Eritreo on piano. Together, they bring a unique energy to the performance, mixing passion with exceptional musicianship.
One of the featured pieces, La donna è mobile from Verdi’s Rigoletto, is a playful and powerful aria that presents the tenor’s virtuosity and charm. Another iconic piece, Puccini’s Nessun dorma from Turandot, is known for its soaring, emotional melody. Thus, they will capture the audience with their intensity and grandeur.

Four days before Christmas the Vienna Chamber Symphony performs a special Advent Concert at the historic Gothic church, located at Minoritenplatz. The evening promises Vivaldi's enchanting The Four Seasons, a vivid portrayal of nature's changing landscapes, and the uplifting Gloria by Vivaldi. These pieces highlight the technical brilliance and emotional depth of the musicians, ensuring a captivating concert experience.
In addition, Vienna's Minorite Church has exceptional acoustics due to several architectural features. Originally built in the 13th century in Gothic style, its high vaulted ceilings allow sound waves to travel and reflect effectively. Without a doubt the Classic Ensemble Vienna gathers some of the finest classical quartets to perform music. They masterfully conquer each tune, accentuate at the right point and let each piece drift across the audience in perfect harmony.
