The Third Man Tour
Travel Vienna Beyond Beaten Tourist Paths
I lived in Vienna in the 90’s so am coming back to have more than a tourist experience. I want to do in-depth tours or a course on writing.
I am a writer interested in the Black Madonna, Mary Magdalene, and Spirituality in general…but as a path to consciousness more than as
religious concepts. I need a place from July 20th to August 4th. I’d like something in or near the first district, as my first 2 weeks are in the 18th district.
Any ideas are welcome.
I live on Vancouver Island in Canada, so if you ever want information on western Canada, I can tell you so much!
Thanks,
Kathy Rodgers
Hi Kathy,
thanks for your kind offer of opening up Vancouver for me, appreciated!
Guided Vienna Tours Off The Beaten Track
you could join the Da Vinci Tour. I don’t think it’s spiritual but should be quite mystical.
The private tour The Madonnas of Vienna is mostly done during the winter, but you may get the guide to do it with you while you are around.
As a native, I found The Third Man movie tour really interesting as the guide rolled up Vienna from a different perspective. While you walk around the first district, he tells you stories about everyday life in Vienna after World War II, and provides little known but fascinating background about historic buildings. See my review on the Third Man Movie tour for further information.
There are a few other special guided tours through Vienna, where you discover Underground Vienna, the city’s modern districts, Graham Greene’s Vienna or the Nationalpark Donauauen. For more info click here.
Writing Courses
Most writing studios in Vienna take a summer break. You could try individual coaching, such as Helga Zimmer-Pietz or Johanna Vedral.
Staying In Vienna
You may want to check out a few Bed and Breakfasts
in the city centre. Not sure what your budget is but I have had a quick check for value for money places, using your travel dates: Pension Dr. Geissler, Pension Neuer Markt, Pilgram Apartments (5th district), and Pension Vienna Happymit (4th district) are just a few examples of places that should be still available. You can widen your search for other B and B’s or hotel categories on the pages.
I hope this helps. Enjoy Vienna and let me know if you need anything else!
